Land on utilities - roll dice

To balance out the electricity bill, which I recently calculated as being about £450 for the last 3 months, today I received our gas bill for the last four months... £2.01. I guess cooking pasta on the hob twice a week doesn't use much gas.

In other domestic news, a guy came to look at the rising damp this morning... he told me that my flat doesn't have rising damp. Anyone who has seen the water running off of the bottom of the walls at my place may find this hard to believe. Second opinion from a different company on Wednesday.

We constantly end up with the gas company actually owing us money, quite handy at the end of the year to get a refund for usually around £50.

Yikes - £450... Are you running your own server farm?!?

Electric heaters and an electric oven... mostly the heaters, as I've been running them a lot to combat the damp/condensation problem.

That is an astonishing amount of electricity. Our bill works out at not much more than a tenth of that. On the other hand, our latest gas bill is vastly more than its ever been before. This partly because the price of gas has risen and partly because I'm away and [livejournal.com profile] elise never remembers to turn off the heating.

I don't have central heating in my place, and I do have a damp/condensation problem, so a large part of the electricity bill has come from running two electric heaters almost continuously to try to keep it warm and dry. The oven is electric too - the gas hob is the only gas appliance in the place.
