Last night was work's Xmas dinner. I got bored and drank cocktails. This morning my head is teh fuzzy.
For Xmas this year, work bought me one of these:

Only problem with that is, I don't wear a watch. Especially not one that bulky.
I said 'thanks' and waited until everyone else had finished going 'ooh' and 'ahh' over their presents, then when my boss came over to ask to have a look at the watch I told him that I probably wouldn't wear it. Felt quite guilty, but it's an 80 quid present, it'd be stupid to just stick it on a shelf and ignore it - wouldn't it? He said they'll send it back after Xmas and exchange it for anything of similar value, but I still feel like I just told him Santa doesn't exist. He said they thought I'd like it because "it's black, with blue LEDs, and it's geeky"... all fair points. :)
They bought two of my colleagues these by the way:

Not sure why I didn't get the third colour... maybe they were having a dig at my time-keeping skills by getting me the watch. :)
What would you do if work bought you a crap present? What about if they bought you a really cool present that just wasn't right for you? Should I have kept my mouth shut and stuck it on a shelf? Bit tricky with something you'd normally wear every day though, they're bound to notice...

Date: 2005-12-24 09:53 am (UTC)To the extent that I was referred to in the "thanks to everyone" speech at the Xmas party as "the man with the binary watch" (as well as some other very complimentary things).
There is also non-trivial evidence that I actually got my current job due to that watch, at least in part.
