The weekend did not go according to plan, what with one thing and another. We managed to pull a reasonably nice time out of it, but it was quite hard work.
Friday we were heading to the House of Monkeys for a peaceful night of lounging around and chatting. This seemed to turn into a less peaceful (although quite entertaining in places) evening of many people coming and going, and a game of OMG Munchkin (I've just decided to name it that, as naming all the decks of cards mixed up in that stack would take (a) too long and (b) a memory). Helen and I bailed on the Munchkin game early and headed home for much needed sleeping.
Saturday's plans included the PA after-party, then a photoshoot, then Acid Jam, then Avalon's party. We managed, um... the photoshoot. Well,
libellum,
cuteevilpixie and
synthclarion managed the photoshoot - myself and
fire_brand sat around in the other room chatting, occasionally stopping to listen with mild concern to the amount of manic giggling we could hear :) After the photoshoot wrapped up, we mooched a bit and then decided to head to the still-staggering-along PA after-party at
willlondon's place. Having a sober and sensible weekend made it quite difficult for me to gel with the proceedings, but I managed it part of the time through the medium of hugs. (I'm increasingly of the opinion that our social circle is almost entirely powered by hugs - we should get stickers made or something.) Helen wasn't quite so sober (yay, gin), and therefore seemed to fit in with things a little better than I :) We headed off about 1am (after being fed late-night spaghetti bolognaise, go Team Will!) to repeat the 'much needed sleeping' trick (we almost managed it, although
glamwhorebunni's 4am arrival with bagloads of kit and an impressive new facial scar did break the night up slightly).
Sunday was of course the picnic I'd organised in honour of 'the only sunny day this summer'. Ahem. I blame
denari. Anyway... we got as far as Camden Sainsburys before it starting not only raining, but in fact thunderstorming. This seemed like a good time to invoke plan B, which was inviting people back to Helen's place. Once we got there, Helen realised she didn't actually want her flat invaded by loads of people she didn't know very well, so I had to politely bounce a few people. Then she realised that actually she didn't want to be around people at all, so I had to deter any more incoming people, ask rather a lot more people to leave, and generally re-tune the party to be one that Helen could cope with. I think we ended up with a hand-picked shortlist of about a dozen people, which worked reasonably well and we had a nice evening, but it was all quite hard work up to then. On the bright side we did get to see Avalon on her birthday weekend, which was nice.
Sorry to everyone who got messed around by me and/or Helen shifting plans repeatedly on short notice, and also apologies to anyone who got caught in the thunderstorm at the park by virtue of turning up on time... as I said at the start of this entry, apparently this weekend had Not According To Plan written all over it.
On the bright side, one of the conversations I had this weekend contained very positive news, and so I'm a very happy Denny. More details once things settle down a bit, I hope :)
